Make the Mundane Your Muse

Housekeeping Chores Can Be Inspirational – If You Choose

Let woman's work be your muse.

As I was walking nonchalantly between my apartment’s kitchen and my bedroom gathering the sheets to wash, I thought how ordinary and mundane this can be.  Indeed doing these everyday tasks like laundry, washing dirty dishes, unloading the dishwasher, re-loading the dishwasher, putting away clothes, sweeping the floor, mopping the floor, vacuuming up the dog hair and dirt – I find these loathsome tasks amusing and comforting.

Why do I say the mundane can be your muse? Because each bend of your arm or knee is a movement of grace and gratitude. I think of my almost 90 year old grandfather who walks with a purposeful step and not as though he has arthirits’ aches and pains, and so as I move gracefully from one room to the next and back again to the washer or the dryer or the sink, it is my muse to move so freely and with purpose to serve my household.

Do not view housekeeping or yardwork or washing the car or picking up the toys off the floor laborious; let it be your muse, let your mind wander and dream and be inspired. You may think of a better way of doing your mundane housework or find someone else to do it for you or at least with you.

The laundry was muse enough for me to write this blog to inspire you, how can you be a muse to others?

I will try to remember when I mow the yard the next time to make mowing my muse. I am usually exhausted after mowing, but I will give it a shot. There have been times that while I cleaning or did laundry or the dishes that I felt a sort of out-of- body experience, perhaps you might call it grace.

That was a lovely comment about Grandpa, he does move purposely doesn’t he?

    Love,
    Mom
